Welcome to Sakura Publishing!

Hello, readers, authors, artists, and bloggers!

I’ve taken an internship for a young publishing start-up called Sakura Publishing. It’s been in operation for only two years, but, since its inception, it’s developed a very impressive cache of promising literary talent. Sakura was founded by Derek Vasconi, an extremely kind, friendly, and savvy guy who genuinely works in the best interest of his authors. (I really mean that—trust me, after working among people who possess considerably less integrity, or none at all, that’s a compliment I don’t dole out lightly.) He’s also wonderfully talented (as a musician and author) and generous (he founded his own charity organization, Gachi Saves Japan, in the wake of the recent tragedies that have consumed that region this year). Derek deeply loves and appreciates Japanese culture and art. He’s very well-read and is a published author himself. He founded Sakura in the hopes of providing aspiring authors with a more personalized and accessible publishing experience. He’s their editor, agent, coach, and advocate, and he’s constantly adding on more talent. I sincerely think he has a solid business model and a great enterprise worthy of expansion. And, I’m certainly not just saying that.

In fact, I appreciate and value my work with Sakura so highly that, as a favor to Derek, I’ve created this blog to post news and reviews about Sakura’s authors. I also welcome essays, articles, short stories, poetry, artwork, and other submissions to share on our blog. Derek and I want to create a bold and vibrant internet community that can discuss, appreciate, publicize, and inspire new literature.

Derek’s published works cover a wide variety of subjects and sensibilities, boasting ideas as diverse and dynamic as the authors who submit them. I welcome everyone’s comments and questions and encourage everyone to check out these books on Amazon.com. All of Sakura’s books are very affordable (about $8), and a very generous portion of book sales goes to the authors themselves. They would make great gifts and excellent materials for book clubs, blog discussions, and private reading, especially over the summer months.

On the behalf of Derek, his authors, and me, thank you!

Happy reading,
Sarah
